do you feel bad?

when you kill a deer do you feel bad. I know i feel bad. I dont start crying or anything. You took its life it was a living thing that you out smarted. I thanked God for what I kill. Deer are such beautiful graceful creatures. The only thing makes me feel better is that I will have something to eat and I am keeping the deer population in line. I am sorry for being a emotional but I got a button buck the other day I thought it was doe. I feel bad that its life was so short.

I don't feel bad one bit. My family loves venison and we eat everything we kill. I am grateful to God for giving me wonderful creatures to pursue and eat.

The only time I feel bad is when I hear about all the immature bucks shot by experienced hunters in this forum. THAT makes me want to cry.

RE: do you feel bad?

You shouldn't ever feel bad harvesting a deer. Actually your helping them with every tag that is filled. The only time I've ever felt bad is on a non lethal shot. That's why you take your time to sight in your weapon and practice. As long as it gets eaten your doing the right thing!!!!!!

Never do I feel bad about harvesting what the Lord has provided. The only remorse I ever feel is if I hit one bad and it suffers unnecessarily or if I accidently harvest a spike instead of a doe.

do you need tissue ; if a person experenced or not takes an animal really old 5, 6 , years old or young 1 1/2 years old, is there on choise.some people have no choise but to take young bucks because if they didn't they would never get to take a deer of any age.it all depends on where they hunt.
we have enough anti's hitting us with everything they have now , much less one of our own hitting us because we don't feel the way you do.thats what the anti's arehollering about now,we don't think and feel the way they do.
if it is legal and a guy wants to take a spike or a fork horn then that there choise, who am I to tell them they are wrong.[:o][:o][:o] [8D] [8D]

bad,no ; greatful , yes.I am truely grateful for each and every animal I harvest.

just my 2 cents worth ; there 98 more out there. JMHO.[8D][&:][:o] :D

I only feel bad if I make a bad shot and cause the animal unneccessary suffering. Otherwise, I feel good about being able to take advantage of what the Good Lord has put out there for us. As far as taking a young doe or buck as opposed to a mature one, I guess that's up to the individual hunter. I don't judge a hunter by the size of the antlers on the buck he kills. I'm always thankful for what comes my way whether I shoot it or not.

for the most part i'm too happy to feel bad but i always take a moment out to "God Bless" the animal and say thank you to both God and the critter....two times i've felt bad, on my first deer cause she turned locked eyes and then died where she stood, the other was a button buck that i thought was a doe....i cried when i first realized what i did but by the time it was hanging on the gambrel i was fine.

RE: do you feel bad?

A deer hunter's life is a life of choices. He has to learn from hisexperiences in order to make every choice correctly. In his early years of hunting, he may choose to shoot a doe or button or spike deer. Later as he matures, he may choose to let walk several deer and be a little picky of what he shoots. Those early yearchoices are not regretted and are quite satisfying to him. If he has matured in a sportmanship like way, his later choices of letting walk a few until big boy comes calling, are golden! My hunting plan each year is: Early bow season, take a doe for management purposes and for the meat in my freezer. Look for anice buck in bow season. Black powder season, Nothing under a six pointer buck will I shoot. Regular gun season, get the big boy as soon as possible to take the pressure off. Then hunt for another nice buck just because I love to hunt so much. Oh, this sounds like a good plan and easy too. Well, it isn't but boy, wouldn't it be great if it all happened like that every year. It has happened like this for me this year so far, and I thank the Good Lord every night for this year's season. It's been the very best season of my life so far and I've even started going to church just because I promised God I would for the fine deer He's given me. God's deer are the greatest! Happy hunting guys.

I always feel sorrow for the animal I take. I think it is because I have so much respect for them, however I do know that it is my place as a responsible hunter to try and control the herd for their over all well being. I think if you don't feel any kind of sorrow, your not a hunter, just a killer. It's just a matter of respect.

In many places including where I hunt, The deer population is nearing out of control. Every year the Game and Fish adds more annlerless deer tags and extends the season to try to get the herd in check. Every year many of the doe tags go unsold or unfilled. The cost will be the loss of the entire herd if over population and desease take over. As an old country boy, I understand the need for harvesting animals and keeping the population in match with the food supply. I take no joy in killing an animal but its never wasted and I take as many antlerless deer as the law allows as long as I have the freezer space.

I don't know much about Texas deer hunting, except what I see on the TV,but here in New York,it's about population control. We have a lot of deer here and our fair share of so called "trophy hunters"Most of us fall into the "meat hunter" classification.I have been hunting deer for 39 years, and I have a garage full of horns.some small, but a good number of "trophy" racks. At least by New York standards.I have found that the immature deer eat a lot better.Iwould rather shoot a young deer for myself, and leave the old tough one's for the trophy hunters.I like steak a lot more than hamburger. As for feeling bad, never happens.I do put my hand on the deer, and give it a silent thank you for it's life.

I don't feel bad about harvesting deer, I feel bad when I don't get a lethel shot on them and they sit there and suffer. You don't want to get down out of your tree to put them out because they might get spooked and run, but you also don't want to see them suffer. I had a big doe that I killed that I dropped in her tracks but she didn't die very fast. It was only about 15 or so yards away from my stand so I said screw it and got down and put one threw her neck. After that I got down beside her and prayed and thanked Christ for the chance to harvest such a beautiful and smart animal. I just can't stand to see anything suffer.

I think most hunter feel gratitude to the animals in which they harvest. This can beconstrued as sorrow depending on how emotional the indidivual it is but I think it is nothing more the utmost respect and a way to thank that animal. Personally I am in awe with the animals I hunt, I love seeing them, being with them, pursuing themand of course eating them. Each harvest has a special place in my memory bank but never have I felt bad. The only ones that bother me as wellare the poor decisions on my part where things didn't go as I had planned.

Yes I agree with what Skeeter said. I love watching them as well. Sometimes it is surreal to see how majestic and beautiful they are. Also how they move through the woods amazes the crap out of me! They are so big, but yet, they hardly make a sound!

When i kill an animal i really don't feel bad. When i go tag my game i take in the beauty of the animal and thank god for such a wonderful creature. My family eats atleast 2 deer a year. We donate the third one to the church for the venison dinner. I dont feel bad after taking the animal... i would definately feel terrible not just bad if the game was not being eaten.

RE: do you feel bad?

I don't think bad is the word for the way I feel when I harvest one of God's creatures. I feel fortunate - as if I am sharing a bountiful feast with the Lord Himself. I always say prayers before and after every hunt. It is a wonderful way to open and close every experience in His wonderful outdoors, don't you all think. And of course I pray to give thanks for any harvest.

In His book, it is written, something like this..........

"Take thy quiver and take thy bow and share in the bounty...."

Or something like that. Maybe someone can quote the script better than I. I certainly believe that Chuck 7 could be more accurate than I.

But don't feel bad - feel blessed and thankful. Share your harvests with those less fortunate.

I truely feel bad if the deer is shot poorly(rarely). Normally a quick kill makes me feel extremely thankful for the opportunity to harvest the animal. I'll say a few words of thanks and make sure the animal is properly cared for and begin the real work.

RE: do you feel bad?

No I don't feel bad about killing an animal! As others have well said, hunting is really about population control. Limits are set to keep deer at healthy numbers, so we are doing the herd a favor. I feel very bad about a poor shot, when an animal suffers needlessly! When you think of all the ways to die in this world, a bullet to the heart, is not really a bad way to go!
And if theres still any doubt, remember the Lord gave the world, and the animal kingdom to man to subdue!

NEB.BuckHunter 11-25-2005 08:31 AM

RE: do you feel bad?

I also feel gratitude when I harvest an animal. When I do feel sad is when I see the deer lying on the side of the road hit by vehicles and those that had poor shots on them. While I was hunting this year, I came across what would have been a monster next year. He was a year and a half old buck, really tall and wide with a bunch of "junk" on the bottom of his rack. He had to be shot on the first weekend and I stumbled across him on the second weekend of the season. Coyotes pretty much took care of him, but you could definitely tell that he was shot.

Genesis 9:2-3
The fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every bird of the air, upon everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea; into your hand they are delivered. Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you; and as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.

I sorta felt bad after I got my first buck because it was only a 4 pointer. In the future I will be a little more selective, but I've been hunting a good 4 years and this was my first buck. I've never felt bad about killing an animal that was hunted and harvested for meat.

Nope , never .
All I feel at that moment is the rush ofadrenaline and a powerful sense of satisfaction .

Maybe you should take photo safaris instead. You could still use all of your skills and gear but the deer would get to live a little while longer . Catch and release , so to speak . Of course , once that deer has been snapped and let go he's gonna wander next door ...

I see for most of us our connection to nature is quite deep, we have a huge amount of respect for our quary and it is natural to feel a little bad for disrupting nature at her finest. This seems to be something that comes with maturity and many years of hunting. I remember when I was a kidI could kill everything out there and eat it or sell it, now I select species that are abundant before killing anything.;)

I had tears in my eyes on the first deer i killed. It was a doulbe lung and heart shot. The only step it took was finisghing the leap that i shot it in and it just layed there breathing and heaving and i shot it again. I had tears tho. I always thank GOD tho for what i kill.

RE: do you feel bad?

I feel kinda sad because I love animals (no I am not PETA activist) but I do value animal life just as much if not more than a human, the reason being is humans are very cruel. I get over feeling bad becase I know God has put animals here on earth for us. I know that not one gramof meat will be wasted on deer that I kill.

It makes me sick to know that there are other hunters out there that don't value animals, that don't have respect for other hunters and the animals. It makes me sick to see a deer lying dead becase some jackass didn't want to take the time to search for the deer he just shot. It makes me sick to see wounded deer. It makes me sick to hear jackass hunters talk about their hunting stories that usually go like this, "i seen a deer and shot it and hit it but it ran off and I looked for about 5 mins and found all kinds of blood but never found the deer" I've looked all night for a deer that I wasn't sure that I hit and there wasn't any blood but I just wanted to be 1000% sure that the bullet didn't hit it.

Another story is "I shot at a deer 5 times and then it just ran off" If you can't hit a deer in the first 2 times, I wish you wouldn't be hunting. I've never had to shoot more than once at a deer. I don't know if they have buck fever or just throw the gun up and shoot of what they do but I wish ppl would have a little more respect for themselves and the animals.

so no, when I thiknk about all the crap that goes own, I feel quite happy that I've killed a deer, clean, quick and I have found him.
