hot drinks

Do you think having a thermos in your pack is a good idea?
When you are drinking do you think deer can smell it?

If he can smell your coffee, he has already smelled you. Hunt the wind.

I'm not sure coffee is an "alarm" scent for the deer. It smells "foody", like nuts, not like a sweaty and smelly predator. Anyway, if I can't have my coffee then I can't live and therefore, can't hunt. If I see less deer because of my java, so be it.

Yes they will be able to smell it. But they can also smell you.
I drink my coffee, especially on those cold days. After about 2 or 3 hours in the stand your cover is blown to anything down wind.

Drink your hot cup of whatever and stay in the stand as long as you can without moving around. You'll do fine.

On the colder days I always bring a thermos of hot coffee or chocolate. I would rather have something to warm me up and keep me focused, so I can stay on stand longer.
As far as the smell of coffee spooking the deer, a few years back I had just poured a cup of coffee when an 8 pointer came in down wind of me and gave me an easy shot. It didn't seem to phase him a bit.

I like coffee myself. Have same problem with the urge to drop a duce. Haven't seen Mr. Longtines yet, thinking about going back to drinking coffee on the stand. Maybe it will change my luck.
