You need to just jump on it's back and wrestle it down. Be careful not to get your skirt tangled up in the antlers if it has them.

if it was legal, most people would start in the woods

It has to be legal to some extent because I know people that have deer farms and the such. Same with elk. I would assume you have to buy them, not catch them wild. Try doing a search on the internet or something.

If I see one of the guys I know I will ask him. I don't see either of them much anymore because we don't work together anymore.

Captive deer arent caught, theyre propagated, that is, offspring from other captive herds. Yes, at one time it all had to start from wild stock, but in many cases, that was 25 years ago. I raise em, and they sure as heck arent good pets! Theyre quite an animal to see, though.

Hey guys, what exactly IS a troll, in here, by definition, if you wouldnt mind explaining?

why exactly wouldn't they make good pets? I don't mean pets literally but i have always been fasinated with deer. The only thing i don't like about hunting is you usually have to shoot at them before you get a chance to watch there behavior to much. I think it would be cool to be able to interact with deer.

My grandpa caught a fawn while he was cutting wood. The fawn was caught up in a barb-wire fence and my grandpa brought him home. We spent a good sum of money uilding a 8-foot high fence for him and while it was a large area for us to build and pay for, it was probably very little room for the deer. the high cost of food and water setup and other things. Then consider in the fact that this deer was very friendly and a decent pet his first year. After that, we never got in the pen with him anymore, he was dangerous and mean. Just his nature is all. I have no doubt he could have killed someone if they were in the pen with him when he was a 8 point. He eventually had to be killed after some dogs spooked him and he tryed to jump out and caught his leg in the fence and broke it severely. Deer are wild animals, needing lots of room to feed and breed, thats why they dont make good pets. You could stick a limb through the fence and he would take his rack and snap the branch in half like it was a toothpick, ramming his antlers into the fence.

Theyre too dangerous to be "pets". Theyre even challenging as livestock. I know too many guys who have been seriously injured and/or killed by amorous bucks their owners say were "tame". Thats the way it goes, they DO appear tame...until they change their minds. Know how a sweet girl turns wacky during "you-know-when"? Hormones work that way with deer too. Trust me, I have the scars to prove my point...come to think of it, from BOTH!

You can catch them quite easily in the spring. Take a plastic milk crate, tie a long piece of string to a stick and prop up one side of the milk crate with the stick. Now put a small bowl filled with corn under the crate and stretch out the string and hide behind a tree. When the fawn goes under the milk crate to get the corn,WHAMO, pull the string real hard and he will be trapped....

On 2nd thought, maybe just beat yourself in the head with that stick.....

Good thing we didnt feel that way with canines, felines and other hoofstock a couple hundred years ago...we would be lonely as well as hungry now.
