You can kill a deer with a well thrown rock! Or even a BB gun! But most places, rimfires are not legal, and certainly not ethical!

RE: Anyone ever kille a deer with a .22 rimfire??
As a young fellow I shot quite a few deer with the 22 rimfire. There was not deer season where I lived in those days. When we needed meat we hunted. Why a 22 rimfire? Thats the only rifle that we had. You can shoot through the rib cage into the vitals or shoot for the head. Of course I don't condone that kind of hunting now but those were different times and we were different people.

It should be illegal i think. Not enough power behind them.

I will kill a deer but you would be puttin losin the deer at risk because of the small hole. I doubt it will bleed much. I personally know someone who has does it but u beetter be a good shot. (not recomendin it though)

My grandfather has shot many, but laws restrict the use of a .22 caliber now.

RE: Anyone ever kille a deer with a .22 rimfire??
I have no personal experience shooting deer with a .22 but i would think it would be very difficult to track. With a well placed shot, a .22 wouldn't have enough power to exit the ribcage, so the bullet would bounce around alittle inside the ribcage and hit the vitals multiple times. Add the internal bleeding with the tiny entrance wound and you'd have a very difficult time tracking this animal.
