Rem. 405 gr knocks deer strait down if you hit bones, but really drops quickly after 100 yds
Win 300 gr supreme does the same out to about 175 yds, the deer usually run a little less if they run
Win 300 gr JHP is my favorite. It opens to about a full inch, and always leaves an exit hole. It too shoots flat enough out to 175 yds. Deer never fun past 20 yds, usually none, and bleed heavily.

I have seena 45-70 used for deer hunting. Definately will drop a deer. Be carefull of shot placement. The wrong shot could ruin alot of meat. IMO, way to much power for a deer. Probably more suited for elk.

Same power as a muzzleloader.
I am using a 45-70 for deer this year. Using 45gr of IMR4198 with 210primer and 300gr Nosler Partition. Kicking about 2000fps on the Chrono. I do that with my knight.
I hear these guys saying, why are you doing that, thats overkill. I ask them what their inline shoots. They shrug thier shoulders. I tell them with 150gr of pyrodex, and a 250gr hornady XTP, they are kicking harder than me.
