Deer in earshot, but just out of sight
Opening weekend was not as uneventful as I had anticipated. I didn't see a thing on saturday, but sunday was a bit more active. I had myself positioned just off an obvious deer run, and a doe walk by within 20 yards of me, and for some reason didn't see me, that was pretty cool. A little while later, I heard something just beyond my range of vision that sounded a lot like the doe that had walked by earlier. I heard what sounded like hooves hitting the ground so I'm about 80% sure it was another deer. My question is in such situations, is it better to get up and investigate, or sit tight and hope whatever it is making the noise walks into sight? I chose to sit tight, but it didn't pay off.
Secondary question. I saw some sign that the rut is starting. What kind of scent is best? A doe in heat scent, a challenging buck scent, or both? |

ah thats always a tuff call, if that were me i would sit tight, chances of you being able to stand up and investigate with out being caught is slim to none. as far as scent goes drag in some tinks 69 doe in heat, done the trick many times for me

Depends on how quiet you can get up and investigate... Here in MI i would get up and check it out since im shooting buckshot with my shotgun.
