Yes, awesome caliber! Kicks like a B.B. gun. I use Winchester Ballistic Silvertip, 95 grain, I dropped a heavy seven pointer, it didn't move. Talk about clean kill it shut down its whole nervous system in a split second!

Another option is a .270 with 115 grain managed recoil ammo for young or recoil sensitive hunters. Recoil is about the same as a 100 grain .243. The round is plenty powerful for deer up to 200 yards, somebody else can use the gun with standard loads for anything from varmints to elk, or the youngin can grow into it and use the same gun.

I think that the .243 is an excellent minimum caliber for whitetails.
I used the 6MM Rem. for years, it killed 'em just as dead, just as fast as my '08 and 7MM RM! And I'm talking body shots, not risky type shots!

I think you'll do just fine with your .243 with 100 grains. That's what I use, my husband's aunt & uncle both use, and between us we've killed plenty of deer. Kill zone & body shots - the 1st deer I ever shot was at about 225 yds and he dropped in his tracks
