RE: winchester 1300
You should be able to buy a rifled choke tube for it which should help a little bit. As far as being safe, you should be to shoot slugs w/o the rifled barrel (accuracy may be another question). I believe that one type of slug is supposed to shoot better out of a smoothbore than the other (the sabots are for the rifled I think)...but i'm not absolutly sure. Sorry I couldn't help you further but this is just off the back of my mind of what I think i've been told (I don't actually use a sluggun, but I heard a lot of people talking about them at work and stuff)

you cannot shoot sabots out of a smooth bore, they are designed for a rifled barrel. Federal has a new round out, I think it's called true ball. It a rifled slug, which are for smooth bores. It's an old design that has been given an upgrade. Federal took a small plastic ball, and put it between the wad and the slug, and actually from the pics I looked at, it looks like it fits inside a bit. End result, the ball prevents any distortion of the slug sleeve on ingnition, and createseven expansion of the slug to the bore, which significantly improves accuracy. Down range accuracty I read was around 2 or 3" groups at 100yds. That's pretty impressive if you ask me.Butif your still looking at another barrel, get a rifled barrel, and shootsabots. I have one on a rem 1100, and shooting2 1/2" groups at 100 yds. you canget barrels at BPS, or Cabela's. Hastings make alot of aftermarket barrels, so they may have one for yours. good luck and happy hunting.
