How to preserve a tail?

I got a doe on opening day of blackpowder. My first ML deer!
Felt pretty good. My sonwants to keep the tail, but don't know how to preserve it. I've heard that I should apply a salt & borax solution for a few weeks. After that debone it.

Not sure if this is correct, or frankly where to go from here - any ideas?

Thx.

I'm not sure, but I think debone it first. Than apply lots of salt to pull the moisture out. If you do salt, then debone it, I think you will find that there will still be moisture inside of the tail. Someone should have a better idea of how exactly how to do it, I'm just an amature.

OHH...BTW...congrats on the deer.

I debone them then put them in a baggie in salt till they dry and dont stink any more. Then braid them in my ponytail
