.35 Whelen

Does anyone use this for whitetail deer. If so, what grain bullet do you typically use? Might get a good ol 35, just curious as to what you folks usually use, bullet wise for it. I know that Nosler has a 225 grain ballistic type, anyone use this either?

Thanks for any help

Mike

For WT all you need is the 180-200 gr bullet. I've taking a few doe with my Whelen using 200 gr hornady interloks, none went more than 15-20 feet before piling up.

Thanks thndrchiken,

I wasnt aware that they carried an 180 grain bullet in the 35 whelen. But for whitetail i will probably end up using the interloks ormaybe the pointed soft pointsin 200 grain. BUT who knows, i might even end up with a totally different caliber like a 30-06 or 7mm mag.

There are only 3 factory loads available for the Whelen, 200 and 250 gr corelokts from Remington and a 225 Trophy bonded bearclaw from federal. I load my own so there's more options there.

I hand load 200 grain spire points.... never had a deer run more than 10 feet before flopping over.. these babies pack a serious punch..

I also load 250 grain grand slams which are real shooters but never used them for deer or bear yet.. only target practice.

I love my remington 700 clasic 35 whelen
