Why I didn't see one all weekend
I set up a ground blind in a wooded area near a creek. The creek itself is in the bottom of an 8' deep ravine, 15' across. My buddy and I saw deer tracks in the creek bottom during previous scouting trips. He gota buckin this same area last year. We both went out Friday night and didn't see a deer. The temp was about 80 degrees so we figured they just weren't moving. I went back solo the next morning, having taken all prcautions for scent and sound. The sun came up on me in the blind. About 9 AM I heard a splash in the creek, so I slowly crept over to the edge and peeked in. There was nothing down there but a set of tracks, the biggest set of CAT tracks I have ever seen! They were as long and wide as my 4 fingers and thumb together, later measured as 3.5 inches. No wonder there were no deer down there. I decided to get out because I didn'thave aknife with me that I would want to fight off a cougar with.

a knifeto fight offa cougar?
now, it's not my business or anything but... wouldn't a gun be more effective? ;) |
RE: Why I didn't see one all weekend
he was probably bow hunting and didn't have a gun with him. I dont know why you didn't see any deer, it was more than likely the weather not the cat.

If he had jumped out of the creek, he would have been about 5 feet from me. I was facing the other way. I would have had to use the Remington 700 as a club.
