killed one and missed one (QUESTION)
 

On wed, I killed a small buck(forked horn) with a hundred 125 yard shot right through the heart . never shook or got nervous ,calm as could be. yesterday, about 1/2 mile from where I killed the small one, I missed a monster,( biggest buck ive seen in 15 years), a 75 yard shot. I totaly rushed my shot. Im still beating my self up because I know better than to do that. Im 37 years old and killed my fair share of deer , sometimes Im calm as can be, others, I loose it, such as yesterday. what can a person do to stay calm in a situation like that? Ive been hunting over 20 years. also ,is it true mulies only roam about a mile area? thats what ive always heard ,so if I go back to the same spot is there a chance I will still take this buck ?Ive always heard they use the same trails. if you see him in the evening on one spot, thats where he will likley be in a day or two??? <img src=icon_smile_sad.gif border=0 align=middle>

gutpyle the secret is to recognize the fever when you get it, the second you know you have it, start silently talking to yourself. Force yourself to calm down before you pull up the gun and then talk yourself through each stepas you remind yourself to breath.

I have only been hunting for three years, and maybe still green behind the ears, but I have found I have very good patience and have a good skill to sit still when I see a deer. A lot of that is how I breathe I think. I dont know how big this bad boy was but any deer I see, makes my blood start flowing like crazy and my hands start to shake. You probally heard before breathe in through you nose and out your mouth. Thats what I do, but I take it to the limit. What I mean is when you see a deer in sight, and the blood starts flowing and your hands start shaking, breathe in through your nose as much as you possibly can so your lungs are completely full; until you cannot inhale no more. When you exhale, do it slowly out your mouth. It is important to inhale as much air as you possibly can through your nose. Dont just inhale a little air at a time. Take in as much as you can. This has helped my hands stop shaking, and helps me focus better before I pull the trigger. Practice whereever you are at, and even before you go out in the woods so your lungs get use to taking in big gusts of air. Even do it when you dont see a deer in your stand. Anyways, this has helped me dramatically.

I don't know of any range limits of the Mulie. However, the whitetail, is conceived, is born, lives and dies in an area about 1-1/2 miles in length and around a half mile across. Bucks will leave their home range in search of receptive does and return. I have known whitetails in the Upper Penninsula of Michigan to over browse their home range and starve to death when ample and adequate food was available just a short distance away.

Thanks for your response's ,this buck got me all shook up .Ive lost sleep for two nights over this buck. I need some tips on an ambush. ive killed 170 class bucks and this big boy is well over 220. easily the buck of a life time. I do know some hunting techniques, just looking for some input from other hunters to come up with a good game plan. all info is greatly appreciated...( a person can never have to much knowledge)..
