I have a scope on my 35 Rem. but use open sights on the ol' 30-30.

Well, thanks for the posts guys. I have a Marlin model 336 30-30 and I think I am going to stick with the open sights. My uncle, who has hunted for a long time, said he would do the same. He uses a scope on his 7mm for distance, but with a 30-30 most shots will be close.
That works, because the money I was going to spend on a scope will go into other gear!

i use both, my rem. 308 has both, but browning 7mm mag only has scope. so i guess all depends on mood.

My next rifle, if I ever get it, is a .444 or similar caliber with a peep sight. I'd love to use that setup for whitetail still hunts.

I use scopes for open terrain. And open sights for the woods.

I have the same gun. I have the raised scope rings to shoot either one. I have shot most of mine with open sights but last year's buck was with a scope. I must obmit....my groups asre much better withthe scope. However; I almost missed it because I had a hard time keeping the cross hairs steady as it ws going through brush. I need to practice I guess with open sights.

I use both my 7400 has a scope but it has see through scope mounts so I can use open sights if needed and my traditions muzzle loader is the same way but all my shot guns are open sight and my marlin 336w 30-30 is open sight, I had a scope on it with see through mounts but I took it off and went back to the open sights and im happy with my decision I shoot open sights at 100 yards and less just as good as I do with the scope on it
