Sabots are for rifled barrels, they will give you the best accuracy.Try various loads to see which your gun prefers.

You can use either in a rifled barrel. It's just that using rifled slugs in a rifled barrel will make it dirty very fast and you will have to spend more time getting the lead out of it. Mine leads up after about 4 shots or so and starts to effect accuracy.

However my accuracy is very good with some rifled slugs at 100 yards. I am still debating whether I want to use the sabots or the cheaper slugs. I'm going to use brenneke magnum gold's this year but I think I can do better in the accuracy department. I just ran out of money and time to experiment is all.

Sabots are much cleaner and most have better range and trajectory, they just cost much more.

Actually Breneke makes a rifled sabot designed only for rifled barrels. They are nice, thats what I use in my Mossberg 500.

All sabots are designed for rifled barrels. Shooting a sabot out of a smooth bore will not work very well in most cases. Some times you get lucky though.

Are you talking about the brenneke rifled slugs especially for rifled barrels? If so that is what the gold magnums I am use are. The ones I have are actually the rotwiel's I think, but they are the gold slugs with the fins pointing in the opposite direction and said to be made for rifled barrels.

The shoot ok out of my gun, nothing special though. Pretty good at 50-75 yards, but at a hundred they are more like 4 or 5 inch groups for 3-4 shots.

And they still fouled my barrel up, even with the "special coating" they use.

I'll just have to keep my shots under 100 yards is all. I just want to see what the 600 grn slug will do to a deer compared to my 300 grn XTP's out of my muzzle loader.
