RE: Deer hunting implement question

I think any legal instrument should be allowed. By "legal instrument"I define this to require asufficiently powerful cartridge. Thus, I don't know why a legal "assault rifle" chambered for .308 isn't just as suitable as an iron sighted bolt action .308, or a iron sighted British .303, or an iron sighted Springfield .30-06.

I personally find "assault rifles" ugly and unattractive in comparison to a sleek, elegant sporter bolt action rifle . . . but law should not prescribe taste matters.

I carried my Ar-15 hunting last year (.223) ...I don't see the problem...it's a legal gun, legal caliber for hunting.

The only differances so called "assault rifles" and hunting rifles are purely cosmetic.

My Ar is a little heavier than most "hunting rifles", so they really aren't the greatest for lugging around.

and the 1994 assault weapons ban sunset last year, so that ban is no longer in effect.

Anything that is effective. Honestly, we all have used, or know someone who has used, an "assault" type weapon when hunting. Personally, I have not used an assault weapon, but I have used a Mosin M44 with a bayonet (permenantly attached). The thought crossed my mind as a joke, but I never charged an animal with the bayonet. Likewise, I'm sure no responsible hunter, or even most irresponsible hunters, are going to blast 20 or 30 rounds into a deer or any other game animal. While you shouldn't need 20 or 30 rounds, who cares if someone wants to lug around the extra weight?
