Probably unrealistic

Ok well I havent been deer hunting before but my friend is taking me when he goes iwth his uncle. Anyways me and my friend had an idea to make deerskin boots out of the skin from the deer we kill. I know you have to like take it to a taxidermist and such but is it just some fantasy that could never happen to make boots out of the skin. Ive made moccasins before and i know how to make boots.

Why pay someone to tan your hide when you can get a tanning kit here ? You can also find just about anything you need to work leather here . Sometimes fantasies can come true . I've been buying my leather carving supplies from this company for years .

Actual boots? How would you get the skin stiff enough for support?

Yeah, how can boots be made of skin? They are usally
mabe of bull hide or hide of some sort. Are you talking
about knee high Moccasins?

You would use a thicker portion of the hide or add an internal stiffener or lining . Hides are not a uniform thickness all over . Rawhide can be used for the sole . Chrome tanned leather , which is what footwear is made from , is generally stiffer than leather tanned for gloves or clothing due to the tanning process and it's ingredients .

Skin and hide are the same thing .

No , I'm telling you that skin and hide are the same thing , just two different names . Skin = hide . Cowhide is generally thicker than deer hide , but the thickness of hides also varies from animal to animal and the location on the animal . Clearer now ?
