The candle smell might work, its the singing of Happy birthday to you that might scrare them off.
Now thats funny right there!

Trails end makes candles for hunting. I have used these for a long time, If used properly they can work.

Candles do a good job of getting scent into the air. There are a few brands of deer hunting candles on the market. I definutely wouldn't use a regular apple scented candle that was made to make your house smell pretty. If you want to try a deer hunting candle, check out Mastin's line. They sell soy based candles not petrolium based and they're made with proper deer lures not some funky scent from some factory in China.
