Fawns With spots!

I live in Northern Lower Michigan, I am seeing alot of fawns with spots, many of these guys are exstremely small too. Thinks because of a late rut last year. Winter just around the corner and these deer are not looking very big?

That's usually a sign that you have too many does.

I saw 4 last Sunday in South Bama, but that is common. I wonder if ya'll had some 6 or 7 month old does that bred?

that's probale too. Plus take in to account that the bucks just can't breed all the does, so the unbred does will go back into heat every 28 days until bred.

That could be a bad thing if they all dont make it through the winter

Thevast majority of fawns in my area have only lost their spots in the past 2 weeks. Many do seem to be on the small side this season???

I put my cameras back out a couple of weeks ago, and I am seeing fawns with spots too. I am in eastern Texas, and this is not uncommon for mid-September here. Some have already started losing them, but most still have them and will until mid-October+/-. I have seen spotted fawns as late as Thanksgiving here, but that is very uncommon.

I put some game cameras out on Labor Day weekend, and I have been seeing alot of fawns still having their spots. Most of the fawns are good size, I would think they should start losing them very soon.

Same here BT. Game cam pics up until last week still showed some fawns with spots. That should make it easier to determine size come a week this Saturday. ;)

I've been seeing a ton of fawns around the house lately and as ofabout a week and a half ago, nearly all have lost their spots. There is one tiny fawn that I saw in the alfalfa field down the road last night that still looks like you would expect a late July / early August fawn to look like. The little guy/girl was standing next to a couple of twin fawns and they were quite a bit bigger. It won't stand much of a chance if we have any kind of a winter.

Here in northern NJ the fawns are mostly, but slowly, losing their spots. I give it another 2 weeks and there won't be any with spots. Could be due to too many does in your area and not enough breeding during the rutt and that leads to later births come spring...like May and June.

I seen 2 fawns with spots but you could hardly see the stops.... If you was in a stand u probably wouldn't be able to see them. That was last week so they probably are gone by now.

If you are in an area where you need to weed out some does I recommend taking out the small does. Heres why. First, they eat great every piece of meat is tender and mild. Second, you remove them before they eat up a bunch of the limited forage. If youleave them to next year, thats an additional year of eating!!!
Third they are easy to carry out of the woods. At 55 years you start thinking how much work it is to haul out a big deer.I have in the last few years let a few biguns go because it was hotweather and I diddn't have help around to drag one a mile or more.
