The best tip I can give does not relate to hunting, but actual firearm safety !

MY TIP IS ALWAYS HAVE THE WIND IN YOUR FACE AND SHOOT'EM WHERE THEIR THE BIGGEST .....

ditto, plus get with the TWRA, they have a bunch of info, on mgt. areas, limits, type of hunting, etc.....one place you should check would be LBL, not sure what is allowed in that area anymore but there are some nice critters in them neck of the woods;)

oh yea!!!! welcome to the forums, ask all the questions you need, and if you don't know be sure and ask;)
