Got my first double!

This was the last weekend I could hunt on my crop damage permits. I spent all day on Saturday over at the farm. Got there about 5:30a and went to my south stand. Saw a decent buck about 7:30a (can't shoot bucks). At 9:30, I moved the stand lower to the ridgeline where there's lots of sign, trails and tree rubs. It'll be a good spot come bow season. Hunted some more till 11:00 then went back to my truck and ate some lunch.

After lunch, spent some time cleaning up my shooting lanes at other stands. Then I drove up to the north field, north corner to hang a new stand. Turns out the stand needs repairs so I loaded it back in the truck, Moved the truck back and hunted the north corner from the ground for the rest of the day.

Finally at 5:45p, I saw a deer coming right to me. Pulled up my Rem. 870 shotgun and watched it through the scope to make sure it was a doe. Then I noticed there were more deer but I kept my scope on the first one since she was the biggest. The deer came within 20 yards and I shot her perfectly broadside! She took off running. Then out of my peripheral, I saw a second deer just standing there, in a clear lane about 35-45 yards away. I managed a great shot on that one too!! It ran off...of course the other way!

I sat for ten minutes then tracked the first one. It ran a good 120 yards right down the edge of the other guys field to the north of ours. Awesome blood trail! I pulled it to the edge of the field then went back to track the other deer. BTW, as I was doing all this, there was a raccoon watching me the whole time. He climbed to a low treebranch and never took his eyes of me...pretty cool! I found the spot I hit the second deer and picked up the blood trail. It ran less than 50 yards.

Somebody posted recently about using golf bag cart as a deer hauler. I'll attest to the fact that it works AWESOME!! The only improvement it needs is a cable or rope running between the legs for added stability. Possibly bigger tires too. I have some that I'm going to try. I bought this cart for $10 at a local sporting goods store that deals in used gear.

Pretty good (one day late) birthday present wouldn't you say!!

MJL first congrats on the double, second a golf bag cart! HMMM Never thought of that, I use a handtruck with big tires, just roll him up on it, couple of bungee cords and away I go, What I like about my hand truck is I drop the tailgate, lean the handle on it and lift the other end and slide him right on in.

The thing that sold me on the golf bag cart idea was the fact that it'll fold up nicely. Helps with space in the back of my Rodeo. Not to mention the fact that I spent only $10. :)

The hand truck idea is great though for what you mentioned....loading it into the truck. I was able to do a similar thing with the g.cart but not as easily as your method. The golf cart is a single rail so it would roll over. Still, it made for a very nice drag indeed!
