RE: Self-Made Deer Trails

Yep, I see at least one of these posts every year and totally concur. Whenever I blaze a trail through one of my hunting areas in the off season the deer always seem to start using it by the time the season rolls in. Only exception is when there is heavy human use of the same trail. Other hunters like to benefit from my hard work. ;)

Yep deer get lazy to just like us. Last year I was hunting a field with high weeds and never could see the deer . I cut paths thru the field and right up to the woods, The deer used that cleared trail and i GOT ONE within a week
Exactly.

Deer like the path of least resistance. I cut a trail through some super thick brush once and it became the main runway through that area.

This doesn't suprise me. Deer aren't being lazy by taking the easiest trail, they're being smart. They save energy, their scent gets mixed in with all the other animals, the trampled trail is usually the quietest area to walk, and they get less burs and weed seeds stuck in their fur. When scouting I usually look to find the easiest way for a deer to travel between point A and B that keeps them in cover.
