i have shot many deer with both. but i always thought the 30-30 had a little better range. there maybe more choices for the 35 now but when i used it there was only a 180 or 200 grain load for it. the 200 grain always shot better than the 180 in just about any brand of shells that i tried. with the 30-30 i always like the 150 grain. both are very good deer rifles.

If you dresses two same size deer shot in the same body area and angle with the 30-30 and 35, with same type bullet, I doubt you would be able to tell which rifle shot which deer. Just a personal preference type thing. I would check on ammo price and different bullet styles available with each and make my choice then. I would shop around for rifle prices. Welcome to the board, where you from?

but would you use a 30-30 or a 35 rem on an elk??? is there a difference in speed , knock down power, accuracy between these two guns..I think thats what i want to know..I want the better gun of the two. Granted different ammo rounds will produce different results. I can play with the rounds,,,, but most gun sales are final, arent they?? Im from parts unknown... but ive hunted in jersey , ny, pa, vt, cali., etc mostly on state land

I have a 336 in 35 Rem and it'll stop a house. I think a 30-30 would take an elk if you put a good shot in it. My Marlin is accurate...have it sighted in at 100 yds since I hunt in thick woods as well. Read that the round will drop 6 inches between 100 and 200 yds (search for ballistic reports on it)...that's a lot.
Mine was free, so there wasn't a better deal to be found.

If you decide on the .30-30, remember your first shot with a cold barrel
is the one that's important. I chamber a .30-30 Spire Pointin the chamber and
FN in the magazine. Check the Fed. 150gr NP for your first round.

hey timba is the rem in 308 a bolt rifle....Im a Chuck Connors kinda not to mention a lefty
I love the lever action.
Im right handed.
But I think the 308 in a lever is the way to go.
But if you are going to always hunt thick stuff and only shoot short,
Shots a 35 will bust the limbs and still hit the deer & or elk.
What ever you get Good Luck
