Anyone know how far along the corn needs to be before the deer start feeding on it?

you might try a search on this subject. there was a thread about this not too long ago.

but usually the deer will start eating the actual ear as soon as it starts to fill out. once it gets fully filled out they usually won't leave it alone until it's shelled. even then it might be a good idea to hunt near the edges or the woods for deer going after spillage.

deer will eat the stalk as soon as you start getting an ear to form. they bite the stalk off right above the ear and eat that. thats where the moisture is. once the corn stalk has lost its moisture they will eat the actual corn ears. here in new york state there just starting to eat the corn ears.

I tend to agree with the others. I have already seen quite a few areas where the deer are feeding on the edges of various corn fields. I always thought it occurred later in the season.

also, most of the time deer will only eat about the top third of the ear, it can be kind of tough to peel with no thumbs.

I'll pattern my bow hunting around the corn coming down in my area. The broken woodlots hold some acorn, but not enough to make the move strategy wise.

I love that day or two after corn comes down....the deer flock to it.
