Cell Phones in the woods?

I was just wondering how many out there are now carrying cell phones into the woods? Not to talk on, but in case of an emergency. My wife and I both have Tracfones, which are primarily designed and sold for emergencies. You buy your minutes up front, and they are not cheap, and you keep them in the car in case of a breakdown or if you are unexpectly delayed. I carry it into the woods with me at my wife's request in case I get hurt badly in some way. Personally, I think cell phones belong with every hunter in the woods these days- turned off, of course. What are your thoughts?

Yup, ... and you call call your buddy over to help you drag out your deer.

I made sure my new calling plan covered the three areas (two states) I hunt the most.

I try to always take mine with me. You just never know when there is an emergancy. I keep mine on and in quiet mode. Just one beep if it rings. Just incase there is an emergency at home. Caller ID tells me if I should answer it or not.

Plus it is a 15 minute hike to my truck, and when I shoot one I like to call my buddy to have him come and help me track and/or haul out.

RE: Cell Phones in the woods?

In the past i never considered taking a phone to the woods with me.But i had read a post where a guy went out elk hunting alone.Got himself set up on a nice bull.He was using a stick to rake brush to bring the bull in closer to him for a shot with his bow. When he set the stick down he had noticed blood on his boots. Then had seen his forearm was gashed wide open from his broadhead. He said he was 2 hrs from his truck. And wasnt sure a the rate he was bleeding if he could make it back. There were two people that knew where he was hunting at and knew the terrain. So he called them to tell them what he had done to himself and was going to need help. They live an hour away.I think he said it took almost 30 stitches to close up the wound.

After had reeding that post im a firm believer now.Expect the unexpected. The phone could save your life.

It's not how big the Deer,But the size of the experiance that matters!!

I just put mine on the vibration mode. Keep it in my pocket all the time.

I always have mine...I keep it on silent, and play snake, or send text or email messages on it when I'm up in the stand and bored. They're also good for emergencies. Sometimes where I hunt I don't get service though.

My mind belongs to my work...
My heart belongs to my family...

But my soul...belongs to the woods.

Most places I hunt, cell phones are worthless, a rock in my pocket would work as well as a phone, there for I leave mine in the truck.
