For me, it was my step-dad's Brother who got me into Hunting. Till this day i still call him Uncle Tony, even though my mom is divorced. Heck i see my uncle tony more than i do my step-dad, my real dad died when i was 8 and my step dad was my dad's best friend. When i was 12 years old, i went to Winchester Ky, my uncle had a marlin 30/30, there was a "real"deer camp there that my uncle belonged to.

I can remember till this day, how those men drank straight from the fresh creek that roared thru camp. All had rifles, big men with big bellies who drank alcohol at night and coffee in the morning in the deer stand. I carried a bucket full of things for my uncle, and there was this huge hill we had to climb to get to his spot and i carried the bucket, and it was heavy!!! He shot a dandy 8pt on that day, never forget it.

I have learned alot about hunting thru this man and his old methodic way of hunting and aspects on life. Today, i must say I AM a better hunter than he is today, not sure about when he was my age or a litte older, but i always get a nice buck and he either goes home empty handed or with soemthing at the last minute, he really just enjoys being out there. Ill share something with you that makes me almost cry as I write this right now.

We were rabbit hunting on our property in brown county, Uncle Tony just shot the first rabbit of the season, there was a fresh blanket of snow just fallen on the forest floor, and we just sat there enjoying the moment and he said "Mike, promise me something, Promise me that you will always bring me up here, dont leave me in some nursing home to rot, i love this place." As i wiped a tear from my cheek without him noticing, I simply said " I promise Uncle Tony, I promise".

I got myself into this sport and as a result, I was a slow learner. Been doing it for 35 years but I've still learned alot from you guys in the last 3 or 4 years. So I guess that makes you guys my late in life pappy.

My father showed me how to shoot a gun and fish but he wasn't an avid hunter so I guess I got myself into it. I learned a lot from reading, watching videos, talking to others and just good ole experience. I guess I can say I will never be as good as Chuck Adams who motivated me to bowhunt but I have learned a lot from.

No where near it. I am a much better archer than he is and as good or slighty better marksman with a fire arm. However he is a much better hunter than I am.He has been doing it all his life and was raised in the jungles because his parents were missionaries. I have been doing it for 5 years and don't take it nearly as seriously as he does.

I am a better hunter then the person who got me into the sport. That person was not very good. He would just pick out a tree in the woods andlet me sitin it for a few hours. There are times when I have been mad at him for taking the easy way out when hunting. That person was me. I got myself into hunting, and I am better then I was a year ago.

I have never known a better deer hunter than my grandfather. He could track a deer where I couldn't even see sign. The ideas of his that I thought werethe absolute craziest worked the best lol. As an example, he used to spray himself with apple cider when he left the house so he would smell like a frigging apple in the woods. He sat in his ground blind one day (no tree stand for him lol) smelling like an apple and the same buck came up to him 2-3 days in a row, but he would never get close enough for a good shot with his 30-30. So the next day he went out with an egg timer in his pocket, figuring that the deer had never heard ticking before and would come in and investigate. To make a long story short...the buck had powder burns on it. I will never be as good a hunter as him.
