Did ya ever just have ..."that feeling?"

...that today would beTHE day when you begin your hunting day?
Kinda like, you could just feel the stars were in alignment and you could feel it in your bones. Success would ring true before the hunting day would be completed.

I get that feeling alot.. I never get it during turkey season though.

I had that feeling. I told my buddy that the day he shot his first deer with a bow last season.

I also had it 3 weeks later when I killed my buck. We tried a new spot. NEither one of us had even scouted the place out.. We walked in at 6 just as it was getting light. I said I have a good feeling about this tree. I climbed the tree and and hour and fifteen later I had a 7 pointer 5 feet off the back of my tree. He walked by me and gave me a nice quartering away shot. Double lunger.. He never knew what hit him. He ran 30 yards looked around and started walking away.. Then stood in one place for what seemed like 10 minutes and then just fell over.

I get it alot but it rarely turns out to be right.........lol.............I did have it oepning morning of turkey season this year. I had blown a fuze in my old truck the night before the opener and it had reset the radio to a station that I NEVER listen to and as soon as I turned the key on this old song that I used to play on my way to my fishing tournaments,to get pumped up, was just coming on,so I jammed it on the way to where I was hunting and I just got chills and I said today is going to be the day. I had a long beard that weighed 23.5 lbs with and 11" beard pitch right down into my decoy spread that morning and my hunt was over 15 minutes into the season. Most the time I go on so many hunts and spend so many hours in a stand during deer season that I get the feeling alot more than it actually happens but that's a good thing because anytime you have that feeling you are going to be alert and hunting hard.

I have to agree with silentassassin, I get those feelings, but they usually aren't right. And that's why I hunt, I like to be surprised. If I could predict it, it wouldn't be fun anymore.

I get that feeling also. I don't get it all of the time. Most of the time I get that feeling when I roll out of bed. I have noticed that if I tell someone (like my hunting buddy) I got that feeling, it just jinks us. So now I say nothing but smile.

RE: Did ya ever just have ..."that feeling?"

This past season this feeling rang true for me, in a round about way. On the second Saturday of MZ season, I missed a huge buck at 137 yards on a powerline. I sat there the rest of the day and knew I was gonna be back first thing Monday morning. At dark I got down and hung my climber on a tree about 100 yards closer to where I saw the deer.

On Monday morning I was there about 2 hours before light with my backpack stuffed with extra clothes, food and drinks planning to sit there until dark that evening. Legal shooting time was 6:04 a.m. and at 6:11 a.m. I pulled the trigger on a 10 point with a 20" outside spread (not the same deer, but a very nice buck none the less) . He went about 40 yards and went face first into the ground at full speed. When I got back to my truck my phone had a message so I listened to it. It was a good friend of mine that said he had a dream I killed a big buck at first light and he was sure by the time I checked the message it would have already happened. The time on the missed call log: 6:11 a.m.

I generally hunt with the mentality that the hunt of a lifetime can happen in less than 15 seconds. Those 15 seconds could come at any time, and I try to be as optomistic as possible.

Sometimes, you really feel like the conditions are perfect. The wind is right, the temperature is perfect, the solunar chart says "it's time," the sun is over the hill, it's nice and quiet, and you know it's about to happen. So yeah, I get that feeling. Your heart starts pounding before you even see or hear a thing. I guess if Istopped getting "that feeling," I'd quit.

I thought that once. Then I found out that was just the tingling from static right before lightning struck.[8D]

ROFL That was a good one!!!

I do have days were everything feels right only to have a lack luster hunt.

It's the days/hunts that start off bad where you are late getting there, weather is cruddy, forgetting something and ect... to where you wonder why you even botherto go hunting that day. Those are the days that usually end up being greathunts.

Or getting off work an hour ot two earlier then normal and it wasn't planned to go hunting that afternoon. My unplanned hunts are usually better then a lot of my planned hunts.

Must be because Idon't have ashigh ofexpectationsas I do of myplanned hunt. Any good that comes out of the hunt makes it a great hunt.

RE: Did ya ever just have ..."that feeling?"

Well Ihave toadmit I get that feeling a lot, almost as much as the cold snap from my other half...lol. Otherwise I'd say F it and get a few more hours of sleep, less flack and maybe some...well never mind. I am a nut about hunting, as most of you all are...so when I can go I go! I will not say some days I feel better than others but anticipation and eternal hope(just never know)are main factors to what keeps megoing.I mean who needs to get jacked about opening day? Anybody even need an alarm? Anybody leave your sheets and if applicable mate thinking opening day isn't the day! Anticipation is fuel to our desire. What about last day, what gets you out the grasp of Mr. Sandman? Anticipation well maybe not seeing it blew up on you the last number of times. Hope/belief that things will be different this go around and them darned little sheep jumping over the clouds saying" Hey buddy you'll never getthat deer laying in bed!"

My loving wife god bless her soul just laughs when I say today or tomorrow or this time it will all just work out...nods, ok and mumbles "go get snuffabuckless"! She thinksI am a child with a wild imagination that continuely needs to feed the storyline to keep my interest high and prevent the move off to the GI Joe's in the corner. I will readily admit she is partly right onmore than one account but eternal hope also feeds my desire and sometimes you can get them stars toline up even though you don't 100% feel it in your bones. Just never know when today will be the day but only one way to find out!!!!

Oh yeah does that feeling ever pan out! Well on the daysI spring right out of bed, everythings just feel rightand go.. yes sometimes. The days where the sheep are taunting me...as well sometimes. So my hypothesis is....please refer to the above statement.:D

Well I have to think when you STOP getting that special feeling its most likely time to hang up the bow or rifle and get a new hoby like playing Texas Hold'em LOL .... I have that feeling every morning I get up ...walk out to me truck ...feel that chill in the air ... look up and see the stars in the morning sky ...that what drives most of us I think ... wow THIS is going to be MY lucky DAY ...thank ya Lord !!

As a matter of fact I wrote a poem about this very feeling ... I thought of it while setting in my tree stand ...I hope you enjoy it ... I wrote it years ago as a frustrated deer hunter BUT since have had that "Lucky Day" ;>))

You bet! It starts with a beautiful sunrise, the sounds of the woods coming alive and not another soul for miles. I feel sorry for those who never get to experience hunting, especially with one of your kids along to share the experience. Days like that you don’t have to shoot a thing to be thankful for what you have.

JImmy,
Three years ago I was hunting a road in the Green Swamp in Florida. I felt a nudge to go back in my truck and hunt another area 4 miles away. It was 7:30 AM. Not a good time to leave an area:(but I did. On the way there I knew where I planed to hunt. I felt in my heart to walk 70 paces down a certain trail and then turn right and go 1/2 mile. I walked about 60 yds and was going to turn to the right. I felt that nudge say go the full 70 10 more steps. When I did a loud thrashing tore through the brush in front of me. I pulled my Ithica 12 guage to my shoulder and downed my first hog.
I thanked the good Lord ,checked her out and went home.
Chuck
