Topograghical maps
 

does anybody know where I could view good topo maps on the internet. Everywhere I go you need too buy the maps or they are crap, or there are only sample areas too look at. I really need help pleez

I use mytopo.com. You can preview your own custom built map on screen before you buy it. You can choose scale, orientation and coordinate systems you prefer. You can even set up an account for free and store your custom map without buying it.They also make custom arial photos for ya.

the topo maps i look at are on terraserver.com. u clik on topo maps and then put in the address of the place ur lookin at. they are pretty good.

I recently tryed Google Maps. Great resolution and easy to manipulate.

go to www.jdmcox.com and load USAPhotomaps. When you run it, it asks you for a coordinate and it gives you a blank screen.Type in a GPS coordinatefor the area you are interested in or somewhere near it andwhen you choose download map data, the program will go to the microsoft terraserver database and fill the screen. If you scroll toblank area, you can continue downloading thereby making your map as large as you want it to be. The only limitation that I know of is that maps can't cross over into different UTM zones. If you want to, you can load a map, then load an arial photo of the same area. You can put on grid lines, annotate with text, upload or download waypoints between your computer and the gps, etc. I use it to look at new areas, pick points of interest or even driving directions to the spot, then download the points to my GPS. Its an awesome program for a net freebie...
