$ spent by deer hunters

I was watching an older 1992-93 deer hunting video and it had a deer biologist talk about the positive effects of deer hunting you know the usual good arguments such as population control to minimize crop damage, disease due to over population and other things. The reason that caught my attention was the $ that hunters spend. He quoted a 1991 federal fish and wildlife survey that said hunters in PA spent $750 million!! He said they do the survey every 3 or 4 years. I was wondering if anyone had heard of this survey or had any current numbers regarding INDIANA. I'm just really curious. Thanx in advance.

I know what you mean taz. I bought a new pair of insulated hunting bibs this year ON CLEARANCE for $89.00 and you'de have thought I killed someone the way my wife acted. I told her she was lucky she wasn't married to some of you guys on here who spend a lot more money than that per year on hunting stuff. I'm still begging for a bow<img src=icon_smile_wink.gif border=0 align=middle><img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle> I don't think I'll get it till after next season though cause our money is tihgt though with 2 kids and one on the way.

Well, last month I added up what I bought last year. I justified most purchases with this statement:
&quot;It's a one time purchase.&quot;
I said that quite a bit over the last year.....
to the tune of $3200.00 Cdn ($2000.00 US). I don't need very much now.<img src=icon_smile_big.gif border=0 align=middle>
I don't really make a lot of money either.

Wow! I really never though about how much I spend. I'm single 22 I thought I had a fairly inexpensive year Boy was I wrong!4500 hunting 5 states, new bow, 3 plane tickets. No wonder I'm broke now. I'll have to save up for this year.

Regardless of the amount you spend per year, it is cheaper than a drug habit, probably a little safer too! Besides, you just can`t put a price tag on havin` fun!<img src=icon_smile_tongue.gif border=0 align=middle>

Dan B. if you plan on hunting for many years,
buy an Indiana life license for hunting. You get all the possible tags (deer, turkey, etc...) for the rest of your life. The price is going up very soon. I have a LOT od deer hunting equipment. I've spent a lot over the years. I guess I must have about everything,
because this year I didn't buy anything new.
I live in Lawrenceburg.

I don't tell my wife we could of had a new car instead of me hunting.I just keep bragging to her about the meat we have in the freezer.If she really knew how much it cost a lb.she would be picking out the color of the car.

Dan I am sorry, my one little comment took your original question and put the whole thread off in a different direction! I can honestly say that I probably spent just about $150 on license and supplies, that figure of course doesn,t include 2 weeks of vacation, gas and wear on tear on my truck. I fortunantly already own my bow and guns and shooting iron sights I don't burn a lot of ammo at a range. This summer I will be buying a couple of 22's to teach the twins gun safety and how to shoot, I may make that thier birthdy presents, but then again I may not, I feel that it will be an investment in the future of hunting.

Club dues $1200, out of state Alabama license $252, plus gas, eating out, shells, clothing etc, should top well over $2000 per year.

My gosh. The money I spent this year. Lets see. Scent Killer around $5, four bottles of tinks $20, a dozen arrows $60, a dozen broadheads $68, bullets for my rifle $22, bullets for my .22 $8, bullets for my shotguns $30, a new sight for my bow $18, a new custom made rifle $1200 (my parents payed for), a new swarovski scope $510 (my parents payed for), a new set of binoculars $149, Summit Bushmaster XL $200, WOW, that is a CRAP LOAD OF MONEY, atleast I won't have to buy hunting stuff for a long time, haha yeah right. Anyways that totals up to something like $2290. Wow! Just think that isn't including the little things like my new tow rope, bow holder, scent pads for the bottom of your boots, and the my regular liscence, bear stamp, and archery stamp!

Good Luck This Season: Buck Magnet
P.S. Only Chuck Adams can sit at home and see deer so get into the woods. =;^)

RE: $ spent by deer hunters

This year was my most expensive hunting trip in over 30 yrs. After getting shot in the back with a 12 guage slug on opening day this year, here is what this season cost me:
Sportsman license (Big and small game, bow and muzzleloader, Fishing) = $48.00
Gas (to and from hunting location during bow season) = $180.00
Ambulance (from tree stand to VA Hospital in Bath, NY) = $320.00
Medevac Helicopter ride to Elmira Hospital, NY = $6,500.00
Ambulance from Elmira helipad to hospital in Elmira (1 minute ride) = $280.00
2 day hospital stay and emergency treatment = $8,756.00
1 day hospital treatment in Rochester, NY = $1800.00

Total cost this year = $17,884.00 !!
AND NO VENISON!

Next year, I'm putting up my stands in the local bars and console all the poor, lonely hunter's wives that feel neglected while the boys are in the woods! Naw, I'm kidding, but the part above really happened. I'll be paying the rest of my life for this year alone. So even if you guys didn't do so good this year, you had to have a better year than I did

Dan, here is the link to my original post shortly after it happened to me. The shooter turned out to be my brother in law. He's still going to court over it even though it truly was an accident.
