Would You Hunt Or Shoot Deer From A Boat ?
Here in NC a NC Wildlife officer told me is was legal to shoot deer from a boat.
As long as the boat motor wasn't running.
And the boat wasn't in motion from the motor.
Like run the boat close to a deer and just cut off the motor with the boat still
In motion from the motor.
He said that hunters would take long poles and push the boat around and shoot deer.
And it was legal.
So my question isssssssss.
Would you do that kind of deer hunting?
And do you think it is a ethical way to hunt Deer ?
Thank You

Jr, to me that is hunting. To stalk the game and see who can out wit
who. At least you give the animal a chance and not catch it by suprise,
if you kill it, you hunted him. IMO, that's why they call it hunting.
Not from moving vehicles or moving boats, but topole a boat on a hunt
is not unethical in my book.
Here in Fl it is against the law to hunt from powered vehicles in motion.
It is also against the law to shoot swiming deer.

If its legal, I don't see why hunting from a unpowered boat would be unethical. I've heard of people drift hunting from canoes for moose and such. I know several guys that use boats to get them to isolated locations. Personally its seems about the same as stand hunting. The deer aren't looking for danger in the tree or from the water. But a boat even blinded would stand out a alot.
But I guess it comes down to what ever floats your boat.

I don't see anything wrong with it. Actually when I get older, I want to buy a canoe and float down rivers searching for deer. That has always intrigued me as a new, fun, and challenging way of hunting them.

actually, that sounds like a chalenging, and very unique way to get a deer. Ethical? Yes. If you have the stealth to be on a boat and sneak your way within range of a deer, then I beleive that it serves an ethical purpose. A canoe would be a very neat way to take an animal, but again, difficult.

It's not as easy as it sounds.
A canoe will get you closer and I'm not so sure your description would be legal in Indiana. You can't shoot from a motorized vehicle and I know you can't sit in a car and shoot just because the motor is off.
