Deer feed that doesn't attract coons?
 

What do you guys suggest as a feed that wont draw coons in? I have been using a mix of corn and cattle feed in a pvc pipe feeder on a metal fence post,
thinking I could keep the coons out, but they just climb the pole and clean
out the feeder. I did just fill one with a mix of oats and cattle feed, we'll see
what happens. But I think the coons are still going to clean it out.

I've yet to see any kind of food that coons won't get into.

I don't think there is anything they won't eat.I bought some apple flavored deer feed and had 138 pics of them 0 for deer.

Yes, cottonseed. It is high in protein, but contains gossypol, which is a toxic substance with particularly harmful effects on non-ruminants. It is also toxic to wild hogs, so they won't get into it, either.

I know what you mean this joker took up 500 pics in 3 days don't know of anything they wont eat though.

Can you tell me more about feeding cottonseed. I just did a quick google search, sounds like you have to be carefull not to over feed with it, something that would be hard to do in my pvc feeders. Do you use it to
feed deer? Do you mix it with something else also? What is the cost of it?

what if you hang the feeder a little higher and cover the outside of it with crisco or grease of some sort so they cant climb or hang on. i would love to see video of coons climbing a greased up feeder can.

with my cuddeback ive only ever had two pictures of racoons and they were both feeding with the deer, i dotn think their big enough to set off the sensor in my camera btu hey im not complaining

I found out about it last year at the TAMU Experiment Station in Sonora. Iknewpeople had been feeding cottonseed to cattle for years, butit had never crossed my mind that deermightbenefit from it. Cottonseed is relatively cheap, but it isn't quite as cheap as corn. But it has a lot higher protein content. Many of my cattle protein supplements derive their protein from cottonseed meal. For a PVC feeder consumption is harder to control, and I can't remember exactly what they did in Sonora. Sorry I don't have that many specific answers to your questions. You might try contacting the Experiment Station.
