A new mineral lick?
Anybody ever heard of pouring Clorox Bleach on a stump or on the ground as a mineral lick? I know some people that swear by it.

Yeah it sounds alittle wierd to me too, but it was actually an older gentleman that told me so I kinda thought he may have known something that I didn't. I personally have never tried it.

I think there was a thread on that last year in the bow hunting area .
I have not tryed it , always afraid of messing up a good spot. Johnch |

I think whoever told you that, is trying to ruin your hunting spots.. My uncle has a bad problem with one of his neighbors hanging stands literally ove the fence of his property, and he uses chlorine bleach and chlorine tablets for a pool and puts it around the guys stand, and deer will totally avoid the area, for a good while. Id say as sensitive as a deers nose it it probably burns their noses to smell it very close, so they stay away form it.

RE: A new mineral lick?
I've spoken with a few guys in the South who do this , you dig a shallow hole and pour a cup of bleach in it and cover it up . The bleach reacts with the soil and produces sodium as it catalyzes with minerals in the soil . Deer crave sodium and dig up the soil and eat it . They said that there was no ill effect on the deer because the bleach is nuetralized in the process before the deer can smell the lick . Bleach is a dilute solution of sodium hypochorite , when neutralized it becomes a salt . Consult your state's laws on baiting before using this method during a hunting season .
