I guess if you missed you could run the deer over! JMO

I have to agree with the sentiment that while it would seem impractical and maybe even lazy where I am from, if I was hunting vast areas of scrub mesquite trees where hanging your stand on the old oak tree with a perfect funnel location is just as implausible, who knows? I say toeach his own (or to each area their own practices, perhaps), and am ok with that.

ORIGINAL: Rebel Hog

With the palmetto's we have
here hogs and deer can't see the Blazer, but I can see them.

[/align]
my husband had to hire a pilot to locate his blazer before we were married, he lost it, couldnt find it........lmao, i know what you mean....even an airboat out in the marsh can be hard to see...
i think as long as it's legal, go for it....i'd personally be happy sitting in a tree, but i'd do it this way too....adds to the experience....

I think it'd be great for running the sidelines at the local high school Friday night football games. Man, what a camera platform. Hunting????? I don't think so. It just doesn't seem like hunting to me. Heck, it isn't hunting. It's what we use to call ROAD HUNTING in NY. Highly illegal and frowned on. IN FACT, in NY you would get arrested if you were 50 miles off the road in that with a loaded weapon. Guns and bullets and vehicles are not a hunting rig. You drive up and what do you know about who's in the woods. Do you know if there are any other hunters or jaywalkers around. Having been on the recieving end of 3 round of 243 from a road hunter when some does got in between me and the road I can tell you. The truck driver never knew I was there until I unloaded and said a few choice words. He didn't evenstick around to see if he hit anything.

Why, right after i had said how foolish it is when people declare how a certain practice is illegal in their state so it must be illegal everywhere and if it isnt its "unethical."I frankly dont give a damn whats going on up in new york or maryland or wherever. Most all of the practices used to hunt south texas which includefeeders, deer blinds, and high rack vehicleshave been deemed "unethical"at one time or another on this forum. Before you yankeesrunnin your mouth or should i say fingers take a look at some pictures of the south texas brush country. Try carryin your damn tree stand or muzzleloader or watever the hell yall usethrough a prickly pear thicket or mesquite grove. Throw in a few diomandbacks here and there and you got quite the party.

I hunt swamps, beaver ponds, where a 4 wheeler can't go, in South Georgia where I literally wade through gators, diamondbacks, wild hogs, water moccasins and even the occasional wild dog. In the bottoms it is so thick, you couldn't go through in a tank. Then I hunt in the mountains of north Georgia where it is si steep and rocky that a billy goat would get dizzy. But, I make ways through in the off season, stay in shape, learn how to follow contours to keep from getting lost, and where snake boots. I don't 'hunt' out of a condo though! I carry my climber, or build a natural blind and hunt on the ground. There are other ways in texas to hunt than having to resort to a portable motel room.

It's funny. People from the east and even some from the south still don't get it. They keep talking about "the woods" and "the wilderness". In some of these places nothing over ten feet grows. It's arid and the deer have to move over large areas to find enough forage and water to survive. They got plenty of hiding spots though with all that scrub brush and they can cover alot of territory fast so when hunting those conditions you should to sometimes. It's not legal or even all that practical here in my part of California but I'd love to do it in Texas.

No disrespect intended, but what has that got to do with using a super, mechanically operated, motor driven stand? There are ladder stands that can be leaned against scrub oaks, and tower, and platform stands that can be placed on senderos--so what's there to make it necesarry to use such a cotraption. I think the point most objectors are making is that there are other ways to approach hunting, even in S Texas than resorting to something that smacks of gimmickery!

RE: Would you hunt from this?

When I started hunting deer almost 35yrs ago there were NO 4 wheelers out there NONE - ZIP - ZERO. You might have seen 3 wheelers but hunters weren't use them. I'll bet if there was an attack here on the use of 4 wheelers for hunting almost every post would be justifying there use.

I hauled a deer approx 1/2 mile last year to my truck with no 4 wheeler and I'm over 50!

These truck mounted hydraulic scissor stands are great tools in places like S. Texas or S. Cal where I took my 1st 3 deer in the early 70's. You can hunt multiple farms/ranches without the need to build or buy X number of tower stands 20-25" high. Erecting stands on vast expances of land isn't always practical or economical.

4 wheelers and truck mounted stands have there time and place just like many of the toys we use to pursue and harvest game that our daddy or grand daddy would have fell over laughing if they were alive today.

RE: Would you hunt from this?

I personally wouldnt not even if it was desert land. If you want to be able to move around then do it on horseback. To say there is no other way to hunt in open land just isn't write. However, i have a physically disabled buddy who does have a licence to hunt out of a vehicle and i'll bet he would think its pretty cool
