RE: acorns
Anywhere there is acorns there is a chance of seeing deer, sometimes there is to many acorns to make good deer hunting cause deer just don't have to move to get filled. I would give it a try, if you don't see any deer I bet you will enjoy it anyway.

If you cannot see the area where there is currently deer sign in the other side of the old road bed...I would move my stand. If that area has a lot of acorns with no deer sign, why would I want to spend my time there, when I could hopefully locate another area that shows more deer activity.

RE: acorns
I have hunted a few acorn spots this year already and one I am really looking forward too... One I hunted that had no sign at all... just alot of acrons dropping... and I saw one good buck... If the acorns are just starting to drop in that area then there might not be any sign there yet, but rest asure where there are acorns there will be deer... I found an awsome spot that I plan on hunting on wednesday with lots of acrons and sign... and there are still alot of acorns on the ground which means they are still going to be coming in there.... Good Luck...

RE: acorns
If I am hunting a spot that has oaks/acorns as the primary food source there is one thing I want to find, and it isn't something you can see actaully. I want to hear the acorns dropping. If it sounds almost like rain. That is one powerful dinner bell! Also, I never hunt right on top of oak trees. If deer are using it, I do not want to disturb the area. I try to slip into a good spot on the edge of it. Maybe 40 yards out or so. If you can determine the bedding area then sit between that and the oaks you will be in great shape. Never focus soley on sign. You want to be be where a buck will be, not where he has previously been. Good luck!

RE: acorns
It could be that the deer have not found the "spot" yet. I hunted a place last year that was full of red oak acorns and did not see but one deer on 3 different hunting trips. I came back about three weeks later and the area looked like a hog lot with all the deer sign. I would keep an eye on that spot and sooner or later the deer will be there.
