RE: Why do hunters... "Like to Kill"?
My wife would never kill a living thing above a fly or mosquito. But she enjoy's the deer, moose and bear that adorns our table at suppertime. She grew up in a cellophane wrapped society which is sanitized from the reality of life. Things die, be it plant or animal andpeople eat. Nothing more or less.
I endeavour to ensure a quick and humane kill of my prey. I'm thankfull for the meat the animal will provide my family. I'm thankfull for the memory of a succesfull hunt. The kill to me is anti-climatic. The pleasure is inknowing that you did everything right (or got lucky) and managed to provide food for the table. |

RE: Why do hunters... "Like to Kill"?
Harvesting is essential to life be it a crop, veggie's, fruit or meat. So either I can do it or have someone else do it..plain and simple that is the only difference. Killing is a necessary portion of the process but to me thejourney to that point is FUN or what I like.

RE: Why do hunters... "Like to Kill"?
I have been asked this repeatedly, and there is no one answer, but there are several good ones. First of all, it depends on the person's perspective that is asking, as to how you respond. To the naturalist, I always respond that if we are animals, as they say, then a ssoon as you make a wolf stop. I will too. if they are liberal minded, meaning that emotion rules rather than fact, I tell them to justify their choices, such as, the wearing of leather, eating steaks, burgers, etc. and then when they rid themselves of their hypocrisy, I'll be glad to show them my consistency with what i profees to believe. If they are just nonhunters that are a bit squemish, I remind them that not everyone is cut out to hunt, but most don't mind the rewards. Most nonhunters do not like the trophy hunting approach, and are very open to those that emphasise the eating of meat. To all, I emphasise a phenomenon that i have experienced about myself. I cringe at the thought or the isloated instance when I accidentally run over or strike a n animal on the road or some other aspect of seing animals suffer, but make the clear distinction between the taking of an animal's life, which is certainly no where near the equivqlence of any human being! Animals are not even equals among themselves. I wouldn't be concerned about a rat, but would hate to see a 'pet' hurt. It can be difficult, but it does require some real thought to make a credible and consistent case.

I'm a chef so I hunt for the meat. I pass up large bucks here in Alabama that most people would go crazy over. Don't get me wrong I will take a very large one but I kill deer for the meat. Everything dies, it makes no difference if it's by my bow or a car with a mother and 3 kids in it. I enjoy the kill and I always will.

ORIGINAL: DucksUnlimited987 Sorry, but I had to say this, its not killing, its HARVESTING!!! I harvest my crops but I kill my deer. Sometimes, I don't understand why some folks, especially hunters, always describe it as harvesting....Are they trying to make it sound less "bad"? The post did not ask...Why do hunters... like to harvest? |
RE: Why do hunters... "Like to Kill"?
I would offer him the chance to go hunting with me. He would soon find that I do WAY more watching than killing. I let many deer walk, just because I want to setback & watch them. Do not get me wrong. I do my far share of killing. Killing is the least important factor in my book.
IMHO if you do not under stand my view on this? You are not old enough & you will under stand it over time. |
RE: Why do hunters... "Like to Kill"?
I think Rack Attack pretty much came right to the point. I love the hunt and everything about it. The only thing that is tough at times is the killing part, but I have to do it to complete the hunt(for me that is) I love every part of the journey, the scouting, hanging stands, outings with friends, preparing the equipment, the quiet walks or sneeks into the woods, sitting in a tree watching everything unfold, the anticipation of the shot, the flight of the arrow and TWACK. It's all down hill after that, blood, guts, dragging, skinning cutting and wrapping. But then you eat.:D
