Decoys

Are decoys a good strategy to employ during the early season? If so i would apreciate some tips on using one.

I've had good and bad luck with them. They seem to work better in the rut when bucks are looking for does. I have had other does run away from them right when they see it. I have had small bucks come up and get spooked from it after getting in range. I never used abuck butthey don't work that good for me until the rut.

Same here. I have had mixed luck with them though I don't claim to be an expert on their use. On several occasions I have had curious deer approach my decoy and offer clean shots. On others they turn tails and run to the hills. I follow the typical setup and scent precautions so I can only assume that there was just something about the decoy's presentation that they did not like. Time of the year didn't seem to change their effectiveness in the limited number of times I have used them.

That's a neat picture! Just don't shoot the wrong one.
