Scouting cameras

I recently bought a digital scouting camera and I got it mouted on a tree on our hunting land. I was wondering if the flash from the camera scares the deer away when it takes the picture and if the deer will get scared of it.

From what I have seen, deer could care less about the flash. Although my lense has nose prints all the time. If you are still concerned, put ot in vidio mode and it should not flash.

The flash don't bother them much at all. They stay around for multiple pics. The video don't work in the dark on my cam but I'm not sure on others.

if its digital your fine, ive had around 500 pics with my cuddeback and theyve never responded to the flash, however, their not so fond of the $50 stealth cam i have, the noise of the picture being taken and the sound of the advancement of the film is what scares them so you'll be fine with the digital

It really depends on the individual deer. Some don't mind a bit and keep coming back. Others will turn inside out and jump out of their skin when a flash goes off. I've seen it myself and it is also featured on one of the newest Drury DVDs where they show a monster buck that freaks out and takes off after one of their cams flash goes off on him. The buck runs out of sight and never stops to even look back. [&:]

Atleast a digital is silent after it takes a pic because more deer actually spook from the actual camera noise and advancing film than they do by the flash.

After thousands of pictures I haven't seen much evidence of a deer spooking from the flash. On the other hand they are awfully jumpy creatures and if one spooked every now and then I wouldn't be surprised. I wouldn't worry about it though.

100 yard zoom? I figure it's not impossible but probably would be a little pricey.
