It is generally accepted that before the prime rut period is the best time to rattle. This is when the bucks are sparing and building the order of ranks amongst themselves. Rattling can also work during the rut, but you should expect better action or reaction to rattling a week or two before the peak rutting period.

I live in north central Fla. and I have better results in the last two weeks of Oct. and the first two weeks of Nov.
