I thought the feeders and food plots where an off season thing to keep the herd healthy. Not to hunt over. Here in Maine baiting deer is ileagle, but if it's ok where you hunt who am I to tell you, you can't do that.

This question makes me wonder if it's a matter of ethics or jealousy.

Thank you NE Hunter,I agree I think a lot of it is jealosy.Not only can we use feeders but we(in my state)can shoot two deer a day through all seasons.Why?The state biologist says we need to reduce the herd.Is that unethical???As stated befor the deer can make a fine meal at my feeder at NIGHT!

I am not going to say it's Jealousy, that is no better than "Unethical".

I think if it's not legal, you don't process it...meaning it's not even in your mind. However if it was legal, many thoughts may change. Although legal here for deer, I don't do it! I have but really no advantages to what I wanted to tag...lots of does but the big boys came at night (i guess).

I don't think more finger pointing or labeling is a benefit here guys & gals? We all have opinions, techniques, experience and they vary...lets respect that in the future.

Skeeter you're right. the first time i saw them hunt bears on TV over bait i thought thats not fair! but i didnt understand how they hunted them. if thats how they get there bear so be it.
i have never seen a decent buck feed at any of my feeders. they may i don't know. i get a kick out of seeing the tracks and knowing they have been there. i would love to have a camera maybe someday i'll have the extra money. my feeders are really more to hold hogs in our area. now some may think it unethical to pursue them with dogs (hogs that is) but i don't care about opinion really. you don't like the way we hunt so don't pay attention to us!
3030 you say you hunt on deer trails thats kind of like waiting in the drive way huh? in my area trails would be hard to hunt . i have had the previ to be able to hunt everyday for the last three years. i hunted a 40 acre field mainly a year or two ago. i tried to pattern where the deer would enter . i got to tell you they were unpredictable.
But if that style of hunting suits you good luck . i'm not going to tell you that sitting in someones hallway is unsportsmanlike.might try the bedroom sometime it's been productive for this multitype hunter. kitchen works too sometimes. just depends on those wild unpredictable deer.

It seems like every two or three months someone will start one of these &quot;ethics or my way is the only way&quot; threads. I have always tried to go by the &quot;if it is legal and you are comfortable with it, then go for it&quot;. But don't try to preach your way as the only way. Most of the time it is a result of the individual hunter being raised with a specific kind of hunting method. 30-30 says that he sets up on game trails, which is fine by me, but his handle suggest that he hunts with a 30-30 rifle. What is so ethical about sitting in a tree waiting for a deer to travel a trail to a food source with a high-powered rifle that you can hit a half dollar at a hundred yards? There are many that would argue that compound bow hunting is the only way, some would say that long-bows are the only way, some say that stalk hunting is the only way etc, which would put his way of hunting as unacceptable. A lot of people frown on deer-dog hunting, but have no problem with quail, duck, raccoon and other dog hunting methods. Same with the baiting idea. No problem with agriculture fields, oak thickets, food plots, sex-scent attractants, mineral licks and other attractants although these could also be defined as baiting. The only thing threads like this serve is to divide hunters.
