The 180's are kinda of an over kill, even for deer here in Montana but thats what I use in my 700, 30-06 because I never know if I'm going to shoot deer, elk or a charging grizz, so its a good compromising load for what I may encounter. For some reason I get better groups with corelokts than that of a nosler, as I have never lost a deer or elk using that load. Bobby

Well they might open up a little slower and not kill quite as quick as the 150s but they will kill the deer.

I have always used 180 gn Remington CoreLoks for taking deer. Never had a problem. I got into reloading last year and tried my hand at reloading some Nosler 150 gn ballistic tip (green tip) with 150 gn of IMR 4064 powder. The load I made worked great. Took two deer a 5 point, dropped him in his tracks, and a doe during doe season.

good load, especially if you like shoulder shots.

My last 15 or so deer fell to 180's, everything from shoulder shots, to double lungers behind the shoulder, to neck and spine shots. Farthest I've had one go is 100 yards, after a perfect double lunger with some damage to the heart as well.

For me, 180 grainers are what my 30.06 loves to shoot, never miss and the deer do not run....they drop on the spot. My guess is they would drop an Elk too. It is all in patience, practice and shoot placement IMHO. And we all know what those are like....what works for me I am not changing cause if it aint broke...no need for fixin. ;):)

I'm also a 180-gr. man, a Nosler guy who loves heavy for caliber loads.

Deer = 180-gr. Ballistic Tip / Solid Base / AccuBonds

Elk = 180-gr. High Energy or regular Partitions / AccuBonds

I agree with whitecloudhunt. Excellent choice for most big game in North America for the 30:06.

I use 165gr bullets in the 06 for deer. I would use 180s for elk.

Never used anything but 180 grain bullets, never shot more than once, Elk, Deer and Antelope. Good enough to get the job done.
