to help nature,
about 30% of the animals will die, hunting makes up about 6% of that 30%
rest is disease, predators, accidents,
rather increase how many die via hunting, and get utilized for food, skins, etc,
and have how many die of disease and accidents decrease,

hunting helps provide for a healthier heard,

if you want info, stats on harvest #'s, accident rates, etc... let me know will be glad to help,
I tend to be more familiar with NY #'s than stats from elsewhere in the US.

Its the challenge for me, not really in bagging meat but I am usually a trophy hunter and its challengeing in stocking in close on a critter, I come across a lot of game slipping down the mountain here and my rush is trying to get so close I can slap them. If you turn the t.v. off and the computer and spend some nights looking at the stars over a campfire I don't think you would be asking that question. ;) Bobby >>>-------------------->

When I was younger it was about the challenge of a trophy and the meat.
Later it became the process of figuring out the habits of my quarry.
Now, as others have touched on, it is about spending time in nature and time with old friends.
There is a strong touch of conservation in there also. I know my license fees and taxes go to the betterment of the wildlife and habitat. Harvesting an animal is a small but critical part of what we do.

One thing I always mention to people that do not hunt or are antihunting. The best thing they could do for wildlife is buy a hunting license or join Ducks Unlimited or one of the other organizations that use their funds for habitat preservation and wildlife management.

Hunting and the art of capture is in your genes as well as mine. Inside every human being there are genes that feed our natural predatory instinct. Some humans live in denial, while the rest of us hunt.
