new food plot

I'll be planting a new food plot in the next few weeks and want some opinions about what I should plant. I'll be planting two seperate plots, one about an acre, and another a little smaller. I've sprayyed both with round-up and disked to bare dirt with my small tractor. I feel I'm ready to plant but am not sure what would be best for the area. The property lies about 100 miles southwest of houston (usually hot and dry) the soil is many blackland. I need a plant that can withstand long periods without rain and then when winter hits be able to take quite a bit of it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have had good success with Imperial Whitetail Clover but I'm not in Texas. I'd say give the guys at Imperial Whitetail a call and they can give you some assistance.

I have little exterience in TX (well, actually none:)) but you might want to look at a produce like Whitetail extreme. It'll grow in low ph and is drought resistent.
