My first turkey!!
Finally got one today. Only one I have heard at all on the property. Well today was the day.. My second year of hunting deer and first year of hunting for turkey.. The last two nights they weren't talking at all.. On Wed. night around 815pm I heard one gobble way in the distance, figuring a bird gobbled after roosting. On Thur. night I went to the same spot knowing there had been hens in there on Sat. I didn't hear anything again all evening until 820pm, when there was a lone gobble. Except this time it was much closer. Being I work 3rd shift and hunt where I work I decided to go out this morning at 8am. With the rain I figured the bird may roost longer and give me an opportunity to slip in there undetected. I got in around 820am and did some soft yelps, nothing.. I continued this every 20 mins or so until at exactly 10am I heard a gobble in the distance. I had to work this bird for 1 1/2 hours before finally getting him at 1130am. He hung up at a fence and didn't gobble for 15-20 mins. I thought he was going to leave. He then gobbled and I worked him some more. He gobbled at everything I threw at him. Decoys were set about 4 yards in front of my blind. He came in strutting for all of 2 seconds before making a dead run at the decoys after seeing them. I had my shotgun on the right side window and had to move it last second while he was behind the only tree in front of the blind while trying to move the camera too. I ended up shooting him at about 12ft. I also got him coming in on film but not the kill shot.. I don't know how much he weighs but he has about a 6 in bird and 3/4-1 inch spurs. I knew it wasn't going to be easy but it sure was fun! Now I'm off to Ohio next weekend to hunt some more!!

RE: My first turkey!!
Awesomeman!!!! It took a long time to get him in but I bet it was sweet. Funny thing is I saw a hen the other day running up and down a chain link fence try to find a way thru. She just kept nerviously running up and down a 50 yard section. Stupid bird!!!!! Anyways congrats Stan! Try it on the grill in Todds special merinade.
