Speaking of Gray Wolf...

Jeff from Gray Wolf sent me a few pics of a reason he believes he's not seeing any bucks recently. How would you like to run into this on the way out of of the woods!

That is one cool picture! I have never seen a wolf in the wild but when in college in Ely, MN. we saw lots of tracks including fresh ones in the middle of our own tracks during a snow storm. We were out hunting grouse cause you could walk right up on them. When we came back we saw the tracks, kind of a wierd feeling probably less than 1/2 hour old. When I was a kid we had two wolves as pets it was pretty cool played with them just like dogs. They are a really cool animal. There was a old man in town that raised wild ones that he went out and caught in the wild ( I was pretty young so can't rember all the details). I lived about 2 miles from town could not hear the noon whistle but could hear all the wolves start to howl because of the noon whistle.

What a beautiful animal.....wouldn't want to stumble upon one in the woods, but I like to look at them nonetheless!

Thanks for sharing that Todd.

Jeff,

He was a decent size one.....125#. I actually shot him while I was deer hunting. He happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.;) He was the 3rd I've shot and the biggest. I also missed 2 this year with the bow. Called them in and overestimated the yardage. Still made for some cool video.

I guarantee that if they start handing out tags in WI, I'll be one of the first to apply.

Picked up another one today. Saw where six of them walked across a field today during daylight hours.Dan, how do you call them in? Howl? Predator call?

The ones I called in this fall were while I was deer hunting. We heard them howling all day and they kept getting closer and closer. When they were 300-400 yrds we figured our deer hunting was over and got out the predator call.....rabbit in distress. We blew long and hard and within 2-3 minutes they were coming out of the woodwork. 5 days later we did the same thing.

When I go up to hunt them in February I will use a Foxpro FX3 set to fawn/deer in distress and use a decoy. Most of these setups will be on lakes around the shore where I know they push deer to kill. Should be interesting.

Great Pics Guys! Keep 'em coming.

Dan, if I show Casi many more of those Wolf Pics, she's going to end up begging to go after wolves instead of deer. lol As excited as she gets over shooting and taking home a coyote to skin, I think a wolf would put her over the top!
