3 shot plug

What's the law for the 3 shot plugs for shotgun magazines in california? I have one and I was wondering, just in case something ever happened to it, what would happen if I got caught without it. I heard from a person or two that they are illegal, but I haven't found it on paper. Any comments?

California is the same as up here in Washington state, you can only have three rounds in a shotgun. I forget what the fine is, but you can check with fish and game and they could tell you. Good Luck

The three shot, and plug law is a federal law. Yes while hunting any game animal in calif. one must have his plug in his gun. Only when hunting a none game animal like a coyote, or trap shooting can one have his plug out of the gun. Note the plug in your gun also has to be a factory installed plug, no longer just a wooden dowell,or tree branch ect. The fine is $1000 at last i heard. vangunsmith

NAH, that can't be true,no gamecop is going to ask you to dissasemble your weapon in the field, all they care about is if its limited to 3 rounds

vangunsmith, I was unaware the feds were passing game laws, I thought they were set state by state. Could you let me know where you got your info, I would like to look at them, We could all be breaking federal hunting laws?.

In California shotguns are restricted to 2 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber. You can use a magazine plug to restrict it to 2 rounds but for it to be legal it has to fit into the magazine in a way that the gun must be dissassembled in order to remove it. I believe Remington makes and sells the appropriate plug and it only costs a few dollars.

The federal govt sets the standard while hunting on gavt prooperty such as Natioanl forest, wildlife refudges ,ect and most states follow the federal guidlines, and was stated in the post before you, come here and you can watch the game wardens at work. They will tear all the crap out of your rigs if they are looking for something and not put it back or cut open you shotgun shells to see if they are hybrid reloads since the magnet they carry doesn,t pick up bismuth. Yah they are real sweet hearts. you wouldn,t belive what they do.They even have the right to enter your house without a search warrant her in the satte of confusion. California. vangunsmith

Here you go, Brush. Look for the three shot rule on the bottom of the following web page under "Overview of other Regulations."

that just reinforces what I said, it must be a one piece plug that can't be removed without disasembling your weapon, it could be a tree branch if its installed properly ! actually mine is a tree branch, sort of ,a wooden dowel
