Hello friends. No, I did not get drawn for any special Bull Permits (Archery- Elk)--.......so it looks like I will meander over to either Taneum Area off I-90 - for those familiar with the area- or over to the Bumping Lake Area. Either way - I doubt there will be too many bow hunters. I will probably stay in the Taneum Area because there are a few deer over there i may take a try at- during modern rifle.

Welcome aboard, Chasman. I'll be just across the Crest Trail around Tacoma Pass. I may even park in the Taneum to get to one spot on the West side. I hunted the Taneum the first season I moved out here. Way too many dirt bikes and berry pickers for my liking. The elk turned into ghosts. I didn't even see a deer. They really need to move our season back to late Sept/early Oct. Timber lands are all shut down, and we are competing with the late summer crowds. And we aren't going to adversely affect the breeding at all. That's another story though. Good luck!

I hunted off of FR41 just northeast of Bearpaw Butte and Sheets Pass. I came in from I-90 by Crystal Springs Campgrounds which is the first exit after Hyak. After that first year, I never went back. I was sitting on a hillside overlooking a big clearcut. I'd been there for 2 hours when a big Dodge 2500 w/Cummings Diesel engine comes rumbling up the logging road I'd been perched on all morning. Between the road hunters and dirt bikes, I swore I'd never hunt there again.

If it was a legal logging road where you are able to drive then he had every right to be on it. People cant complain about vehicles if there sitting right next to a road hunting thats open to public driving. Have to get off the road, now if the dodge was on a closed off road then he has every right to be mad. Got to get away from the roads.

You're right, he did have every right to be there. But it is just plain RUDE to drive up on somebody that is way back in the boonies, only to turn his rig around right there at me. He saw me for at least 300 yards. And who in their right mind would be trying to road hunt with a bow from a truck with a Cummins engine. Every animal within a half-mile knew where he was. In many good elk areas, it is very hard to get more than a half-mile away from a road. Timber companies have been all over the place.
