Now that we've finally been getting cool wet weather, the Shaggy Mane Mushrooms are coming up like crazy. We went out for a quick Shaggy Hunt last night after supper and got about 7 lbs in an hour -- Plus a nice Ruffed Grouse.

Oriental food/medicine philosophy says that a food is good for whatever part of the body it looks like -- I guess I should eat the one in the top left of this pic :D;)

Guess what we'll be having tonight for din din :)

Boy the Shaggies are realy coming up around over here. Stopped at one spot and picked about 4lbs the other day, went real good with the steaks that night.

good stuff...makes a lil more sense now what they look like. I got into picking shrooms last fall on a sheep hunt while we waited for a week for a plane.

The only thing I know for certain is birch boletes, king boletes, and hedgehogs (once they are to gone to eat LOL). we used to pick morels growing up, heard there is a ton of false morels, so far I cant find either. Oh well....

Here's a pic that will help you with identification better.
Lots of edible mushrooms have a poisonous "look alike" -- But that is NOT the case with Shaggy Manes -- if it looks like a Shaggy, it IS a Shaggy.
