drift boats

I know this is a fishing topic but it doenst look like much of you westerners get over to the fishing forum so I thought I would ask here.....any of you own one? I am looking into building one, wooden obviously. WHats a good size for 3 people max with a 2day trip max load? I was thinking a 16 footer? Any recomendations?

i dont own one but i have oared a couple. they outperform most modern rafts and are quite dry in comparison. with there stiff flat bottom you can almost work upstream in a fast flowing river. they are the **** for fishing around here. i have done lots of class 3 and im sure they would handle 4 easy enough. the wood ones are uasually heavier then alluminum. if your local rivers are rocky and shallow go the alluminum way. the wood wont hold up to the abuse.

guess it depends on where I take it then eh LOL....cant afford to buy a aluminum one, figured building one would be a next winter project. We do have a few places where they are perfect but then again so is my cataraft, guess I'll do some more thinking, thanks for the response!

I got a 16 ft. alluminum. I enjoy it, will go for a glass one on the next purchase.

go to www.duckhunter.net hit the refuge fourms, go to the Washington State page, there is a good friend there by the screen name of Gregor and he has a beautiful woodie that he has built. He should be able to give you some great insight on what to expect and what routes you may wanna take.
