Anyone hunt Alaska on here

I have always wanted to make a nice Caribou type hunt with my wife. I am looking for a good outfitter to use or if someone has a do it yourself type guide for me.

I am not looking to kill a record book buck but if one comes along, that would be nice.....LOL

Just looking to go set up a tent on a nice hill to overlook an area where Caribou come through and we can go after them there.

Also, What time of year are these hunts and what other type of hunting do they have at the same time. I heard there is a little wing shooting also, wouldn't mind that.

Also, tell me about the weather and insects.....thanks.

Stan does drops, unguided. He'll have contact with you either daily or every other day and will move you if needed.

Try this

Stan does drop. He'll be in touch with you either every day or every other day via satalite phones to make sure you are ok or needed to be moved.

Hope it helps.

You can also try the Dalton Haul road north of Fairbanks if you are a bow hunter. Rifle hunters must hike five miles from road before shooting. Better have a GPS to make sure you are correct distance. This hunt is year round but best time is mid August to September. I alsways hunted there with a bow. Didn't want to drag a caribou five miles. First year I got a nice bull, second year I shot a wolf. Success rate I'd say is 50-50. I saw caribou though every day I was hunting. Problem is not much cover and what cover there is has several hunters around it.

If money is not an object the Northwest area has the biggest herd (250K) but is also a big area. That area would be either a drop off or guided hunt. Success rate is pretty high. It will be expensive to fly meat out of there though. You will probably fly into Kotzebue (I lived there 6 years). If you do that you will pay to ship meat from there to Anchorage, then to your final destination. I also hear the Dillingham area has a nice herd but I never hunted there. Wish I was back up there.
