Unjust Ammo Tax Resurfaces in California Assembly
January 26, 2004
Unjust Ammo Tax Resurfaces in California Assembly A California bill that would unjustly tax sportsmen to pay for the actions of criminals is again being debated in the state legislature. Assembly Bill 992, introduced by Assemblyman Mark Ridley-Thomas (D-Los Angeles) would impose an additional sales tax of ten cents on every piece of ammunition sold in the state. The tax would finance a firearm victims’ reimbursement fund to compensate for unpaid medical bills and other financial losses accrued by victims of illegal firearm activity. Last year, sportsmen’s outcry over the unfair ammunition tax stopped the bill in the Assembly. Now Assemblyman Ridley-Thomas has pulled the bill off the inactive file and is attempting to have it heard on the Assembly floor. “AB 992 would unjustly tax sportsmen and sport shooters who obey gun regulations and promote safe handling of firearms,” said Tony Celebrezze, director of field services for the U.S. Sportsmen's Alliance. “Making sportsmen pay for problems caused by criminals is intolerable.” The bill would make the cost for sportsmen’s activities skyrocket, potentially destroying a $1 billion activity in California that also produces $49 million in state taxes. Take Action! California sportsmen and shooters should contact their Assembly members today. Tell them responsible gun owners should not have to pay additional taxes to compensate for the actions of criminals. Ask them to oppose AB 992. Contact your assembly member at (916) 319-2856. RE: Unjust Ammo Tax Resurfaces in California Assembly
heck the whole west coast is pretty screwed up (pollitically) and with our new Gov. Arnold if this passes it will more than likely become law...this will add a tax to every bullet bought which will dramatically increase the cost of even small boxes of ammo...if this happenes here you can bet it is going to happen in other states within a year or so (with so many states experiencing buget deficit problems)...this kind of BS tax thing started with tobacco and alcohol...now it is bullets...next what....fat? fried foods? if someone can say it is bad for you or someone else then they will tax it til you and everyone quits using it or eating it or drinking it.....bean counting beuacratic socialists hiding behind the mask of 'the public good' are doing this to law abiding citizens and we are just sitting back and taking it!!!
WOW...that felt good! ummmmm.....i will try to keep you all posted on this thing. :) |
RE: Unjust Ammo Tax Resurfaces in California Assembly
Well i can't wait until i move out of CA. I heard about all this before but never really understood it until now (didn't really care honestly, at first)

RE: Unjust Ammo Tax Resurfaces in California Assembly
everyone is moving...the libs that can't afford it and the conservatives that are sick of it.......but that doesn't DO anything about IT.
you are here....DO something......let those in sacramento know how you feel, what you think and why..... i was born here and i will die here....other states are very tempting but this is MY home and i will defend it against ALL enemies...foreign and DOMESTIC. no offense red hawk, honestly........but running away from a problem has never solved the problem......nor has it ever stopped it from spreading, just look at the assault weapons ban for example.... pick up a phone, fire off an email or 2 or 20 or 200, send some letters, etc...etc...to our elected officials and let them know that they will be out of a job if this kind of crap is passed and made into law...tell them that you are watching how they vote on this.....you know the drill...if you don't then learn it..... |

No offense taken. I know what you are saying. True running away isn't the best idea. I have lived in Ca most of my life minus being up in Montana for two years. I am pretty much just sick of the whole budget cut problems among other things in the state. I would get into politic talk but honestly as well, i couldnt keep my end of it because of not really knowing the whole deal. I'll consider at least contacting the men up there in Sacr. for whatever good it would do though however.

This was the reply I got when i learned of this;
Thanks for emailing. As you guessed, I will continue to strongly oppose AB 992, because it is silly policy and morally reprehensible. You will be happy to know that he moved his proposal to the Assembly Inactive File which should ensure that it is dead for the year. Sincerely, Sharon Runner |

Red Hawk....Montana is 1 and only state that really tempts me (ok maybe Idaho too;)) to leave here.....pollitics ain't everyone's cup of tea....ya, just do what you can...if everyone does a little then they will be overwhelmed and get rid of this stupid idea (just like Atrox's post is suggesting...it looks like they are going to try to set this aside until a more oppertune time.....BTW thanks for the post Atrox, I hadn't heard this!:D).
