WA Regs question
I went grouse hunting yesterday in the Mt. Baker Snoqualmie Nat Forest near North Bend. The area I hunted was on a well used trail, formerly an old logging road with a gate at the entrance. The road is no longer used for commercial or private motor vehicle travel but looks like it is used from time to time for forest service maintance work as there were signs of some summer grading and survey work. The road is not numbered and from what I can tell is now considered a " trail" . FYI it was gravel surface but I don' t think that is relevant to my question.
State law forbids hunting from, shooting from, shooting along or shooting across a " maintained public highway" .
My question is can I legally hunt/shoot from an maintained road currently closed to public motor-vehicle travel like an old logging road?
I have encountered roads like this in many areas where they were once logged and are now maintained for public non motor-vehicle use ie Middle Fork Snoqualmie, North Fork Snoqualmie (Hancock Tree Farm), etc.
Also how do you know what areas are open for upland hunting in a national forest? State Law dictates the regs but they only really define area by area regs for large game and some waterfowl. I looked at GMU' s and GMU restrictions but no where do they really discuss small game and upland birds.

Scott; try [email protected] This is the Wa. DFW enforcement email address. You are probably okay from this " trail" but they will let you know for sure.
